Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a popular choice for our Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware patients who wish to permanently eliminate spider
veins and varicose veins. These veins do carry blood, but are not
part of the venous valve system and are not necessary.
To find out if
you are a candidate for sclerotherapy and would like a consultation
for better looking legs, please request a free schlerotherapy consultation, call our Pennsylvania cosmetic surgery office at 610-436-8808, or send us an email.
Varicose veins are relatively large veins that are bluish in color and
can become raised and painful. Spider veins or telangiectasias,
are superficial, quite small, and are red in color. Both types
of veins are hereditary and commonly found from the upper thigh
to the ankle.
Sclerotherapy
is the injection of a sclerosing solution into a vein using a
micro-needle. The solution irritates the inner lining of the
vein, causing it to collapse. A standard treatment may last for
20-30 minutes and consist of multiple injections. The number
of treatments needed for each vein to disappear varies from patient
to patient. Typically, one to six treatments may be necessary
to achieve resolution to all of the veins.
There is virtually no
recovery time. Special heavy duty support stockings are worn immediately
after the procedure consistently for three days (except for showering)
and then only daily for another two weeks. This allows for compression
of the treated veins and keeps them closed. Some patients may experience
mild bruising around the treated areas and some tenderness to touch.
Immediately after the procedure, patients may notice some mild itching
along the treated veins, which normally lasts for 1-2 hours.
